Huntsville City Schools (HCS) is asking stakeholders to vote on two proposed calendars for next school year:
Both calendar proposals include the same scheduled holiday days for students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, both proposals include 180 student days and 187 teacher days as mandated by the ALSDE.
Draft Calendar 1 has school beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 4th, with staff development and teacher work days scheduled from Wednesday, July 28th through Tuesday, August 3rd. Draft 1 also has the last day of school on Wednesday, May 25th, with graduations occurring on Thursday, May 26th, and Friday, May 27th. Thursday, May 26th would also be a staff development and teacher work day.
Draft Calendar 2 has school beginning on Monday, August 2nd, with with staff development and teacher work days scheduled from Monday, July 26th through Friday, July 30th. Draft 2 also has the last day of school on Monday, May 23rd with graduations occurring on Monday, May 23rd and Tuesday, May 24th. Tuesday, May 24th would also be a staff development and teacher work day.
'This is a vital decision that impacts us all, and we ask our stakeholders for their collaboration as we make this decision together,' said HCS Superintendent Christie Finley.
HCS leaders are inviting stakeholders to vote on the proposed calendars through December 10th, 2020 using the 2021-22 School Year Calendar Survey form.
