Return to In-Person Learning Five Days per Week

Huntsville City Schools (HCS) leaders announced plans during Thursday night’s board of education work session for traditional students to return to school Mondays through Fridays for the second nine weeks beginning Monday, Oct. 26, 2020.

Following consultation with public health professionals and local leaders, HCS is joining other school systems across North Alabama in returning students on weekdays after starting the school year remotely and then bringing students back to campuses in cohorts using a staggered schedule. District leaders also made the determination based on the feedback of key stakeholder groups, including students, families, and staff members.

Numerous risk mitigation measures will remain in place, including requiring students and staff members to wear masks or facial coverings, practicing social distancing to the greatest extent possible, and providing disinfecting daily in classrooms.

This announcement will impact students across all grade levels who are not enrolled in Huntsville Virtual Academy (HVA). HVA students will continue online learning. Families received the option to enroll their student in HVA in September when the district announced plans to begin phasing students back in buildings.

The district will continue to follow the Reset Plan, which is available at huntsvillecityschools.org/reset.
