Huntsville City Schools (HCS) hosted a parade to recognize volunteers who are providing meals for students during the district's Blended Learning Plan.
Nearly 10 HCS administrators decorated their vehicles, created posters and thanked volunteers while practicing social distancing at the district's six curbside meal distribution locations.
The Manna House and Food Bank of North Alabama, in conjunction with twelve area churches, began providing meals during spring break. Curbside Meal Service will continue through June 5, 2020.
'Today is a great day to celebrate our community partners,' said HCS Superintendent Christie Finley. 'We thank these organizations for all they have done. We are truly grateful for their support of our students and our schools.'
Curbside meal locations include Lee High, Lakewood Elementary, McDonnell Elementary, Ridgecrest Elementary, Chaffee Elementary and Morris Schools.
The 12 churches involved with the effort include Aldersgate Methodist, Church of the Highlands, Huntsville First United Methodist, Mayfair Church of Christ, Rock Family Worship Center, Southwood Presbyterian, St. John AME, St. Matthews Episcopal, St. Thomas Episcopal, The Dwelling Place, Trinity Methodist and Union Hill Primitive Baptist.
The final day of the school year is Thursday, May 21, 2020.
