Each year, U.S. News & World Report compiles a list of the best high schools in the country and in each state. Two Huntsville City Schools were featured on the list of the top high schools for the state of Alabama: New Century Technology High School and Huntsville High School.
New Century Technology High School was featured as the second best high school in the State of Alabama. U.S. News gave NCTHS an overall score of 98.4 and noted the school’s high participation in AP courses.
Huntsville High School was ranked at 15th in the State of Alabama. U.S. News gave HHS an overall score of 91.36 and noted the schools high graduation rate.
U.S. News’ rankings consider the following factors: college readiness (30%), reading and math proficiency (20%), reading and math performance (20%), underserved student performance (10%), college curriculum breadth (10%), and graduation rates (10%).
U.S. News describes the highest-ranked schools as “those whose attendees demonstrated outstanding outcomes above expectations in math and reading state assessments, passed a diverse array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.”
These rankings are based on data from the 2021-22 school year.
